The space
El Pastor (“The Shepard”) is situated in a beautiful valley in Grazalema Nature Park, a Unesco biosphere reserve. It is a secluded, private spot with plenty of outdoor areas to chill in the sun. The Gaidovar river runs through the property and can be seen (and heard) from most of the windows and terraces. There is a fantastic natural plunge pool in the river, which is much appreciated when the weather is hot.
The river used to power the old mill and bakery – in use until about 60 years ago – where El Pastor is built. The building has now been fully-refurbished whilst maintaining the very special Spanish character.
On the ground floor, you’ll find a fully-equipped kitchen, an ample living room with a fireplace, a dining room and a large terrace. A flight of stairs leads down to the bedrooms and bathroom. There is one single room and two double rooms, each with a small terrace.
There are several outdoor areas where one can relax, including a barbecue area. The garden is planted with native plants including rosemary and lavender. A short path takes you to the river, where a waterfall has created a natural plunge pool.

The kitchen is fully-equipped with all the modern appliances, including an oven, a dishwasher and a microwave. There is a Wi-Fi connection.
The traditional local architecture is designed for the hot Andalusian weather. However, the mountainous Grazalema area can be chilly outside the summer months. To keep El Pastor warm there is a wood-burning stove in the living room, two gas heaters and electric blankets on all three beds. We will provide you with a sack of firewood for when you arrive. Parking for the mill is 40 metres walking from the property.
The location
El Pastor is in the Nature Park of the Sierra de Grazalema, a Unesco biosphere reserve. This mountainous area is perfect for walking, cycling and bird watching. Scops Owls, Golden Oriels, Griffon Vultures, Black Kites and Bee Eaters have all been spotted close to the mill.
El Pastor is 7 km away from Grazalema, a beautiful village that maintains a lot of its traditional architecture and ways of life. There are various bars and restaurants around the main plaza, a few shops and a food market.
El Pastor is a short drive away from the pretty village of Zahara de la Sierra (and ‘La Playita’, an artificial lake that opens for swimming in the summer) and less than half an hour drive from Ronda, an impressive town brimming with history.
Other things to note
The tap water is fine for cooking, but we don’t advise drinking it. You will find a 5-litre bottle of water on your arrival. If you wish, you can fill up bottles with the lovely water from the spring half way between El Pastor and Grazalema.

We ask for a deposit of 35% to confirm the reservation and the outstanding amount to be paid six weeks before arrival.
